markilux to receive the German Design Award for its awning series 77x and 87x

Release date: 16.04.2018 - Specialist media text

The glass canopy awnings 770/870 and the underglass awnings 779/879 and the vertical awnings 776/876 by markilux, also known as the series 77x and 87x, have received the German Design Award 2018 from the German Design Council in Frankfurt. The primary reason for the award was the simple design of the series, which maintains a timeless appearance suitable for contemporary architecture.

Michael Gerling, Managing Director and Head of Production at markilux, and Sven Kröner, Head of Research and Development, are delighted about the success of the awning series 77x and 87x for glass canopies and window facades. They have collaborated for years to achieve this success, harmonising the technology and appearance of the awning systems and polishing many details.  And their hard work has paid off.

Design earns points through its discreet appearance

Michael Gerling explains: "Above all, the series unites the compact construction of the cassettes, which are available either in round or square shape. This allows them to match the style of any architecture and any supporting system - whether a conservatory, an open glass roof or a large window facade". This concept also convinced the jury of the German Design Council in Frankfurt, and therefore they have bestowed the German Design Award 2018 on the product series. "The decisive reason for this choice was that the glass canopy awning 770/870, the underglass awning 779/879 and the vertical blind 776/876 are highly inconspicuous with their simple cover cassettes under a glass roof or in a window soffit", emphasises Sven Kröner.

Individual design options

In spite of the slimline and restrained design, the awnings can provide shade for large areas. This is also partly due to the tracfix version, in which the fabric stays very taut, and therefore runs perfectly in the guide rails even in high winds. The jury was impressed by this function, as well as the LED light options for the underglass awning and the large range of colours and fabric designs, which, together with the different cassette shapes, leave room for individual design of the appearance. For Michael Gerling and Sven Kröner, this award, like the many others before it, is definitely a reason to continue perfecting the product series, and therefore to stay in the running for the next award. 2,286 characters
