Villa in Hamburg equipped with several markilux awnings
Homeowners are attaching ever greater importance to a pleasant living environment – especially when it comes to light and heat. Solar protection is therefore playing an increasingly important role, as is protection against wind and rain. This requires a well thought-out shading concept, as demonstrated in the case of a city villa in the north of Hamburg, which has been fitted with awnings from markilux. Four of the manufacturer's models have since adorned the façade and garden of the house.
Today, high-quality solar protection usually fulfils several functions. It provides protection against heat, blinding sunlight and, depending on its features, also against cool temperatures and precipitation. At the same time, customers naturally want the solar protection to reflect the architecture of their building. This is something markilux has illustrated perfectly in a private residential project in Hamburg. The awning expert has equipped a modern city villa located directly on the river Alster with several shading systems in a uniform style.
“This private customer wanted the façade to look harmonious. They wanted the awnings to pick up on the colour of the outside walls of the house and that of the material used to make the window profiles,” says Christiane Berning, Head of the Marketing and Business Development Department. For this reason, the frames of the awnings were powder-coated in a special black RAL colour and combined with neutral, white covers from markilux to match the light-coloured façade.
“On one existing drop-arm awning that shades a large dormer window we only replaced the awning cover,” Ms Berning explains. The spacious balcony one storey below has been fitted with a pergola system consisting of two units with a solar-controlled ‘shadeplus function’ to protect it from the ingress of blinding sunlight. And the spacious patio on the ground floor features a ‘pergola stretch’ – the largest model in this product family. “The owner opted for a free-standing awning – a ‘pergola classic’ – to provide perfect sun protection for a seating area in the villa’s garden directly on the Alster. It is attached to the ‘markilux syncra fix’ goalpost system,” adds the Head of Marketing. In combination with the shade provided by a large tree, the awning offers an idyllic retreat with a view of the water in summer.
With this harmonious combination of different awning systems, it was possible to effectively protect a large proportion of the window surfaces and thus also prevent heat penetrating the adjoining, south-east-facing interior rooms. “With our shading concept, we were also able to fulfil the customer’s wish to open up the living space to the outside in the summer months. This means that the balcony, patio, outdoor seating area by the water and garden furniture are no longer exposed to the elements to the same extent as before,” says Christiane Berning. The residents now have the option of spending a lot of time outdoors in cooler temperatures and in a cosy atmosphere on several levels of the house. 3,259 characters
