Good heat protection is required

Conservatories and glass canopies need solar protection

Conservatories and glass canopies offer a space protected from the rain with a view of the outdoors. But effective solar protection is required to ensure you can use them frequently. According to markilux, that is when they really contribute to a high quality of life. The company’s awnings designed to protect glass structures are suitable for almost any façade.

Recharging your batteries and enjoying the sun when it’s still cool outside or simply spending a summer’s day under a sheltering roof: there are plenty of reasons why people add a conservatory or a glass canopy to their house. Additional spaces such as these, bathed in light, are really in vogue. However, if there is no protection against the sun's rays, the temperature inside can become unpleasantly hot during the summer.

Solar protection is important for a good indoor climate

This can be provided by conservatory and glass canopy awnings such as those made by markilux. The company’s extensive product range can be customised as required. The awnings are available in different sizes and with various additional functions – to suit every taste and every situation. “All of our models provide reliable protection against excessive heat and the sun's rays. Because, without shading, even the most beautiful conservatory or chic glass canopy, is of little use,” says Michael Gerling, Director of R&D and Production at markilux.

Awnings are suitable for any glass structure

The systems come either as above-glass or underglass awnings. Their cover cassettes are available either in an angular or round design. In almost all of these models, the covers run gap free down lateral guide tracks using the tracfix system. This means they are particularly resistant to strong winds. The underglass awnings can also provide beautiful lighting effects by means of optional integrated LED lighting, which can even be in colour. Vertical roller blinds and side screens offer additional privacy and weather protection depending on the available space. Their design is matched to the look of today’s glass structures. According to Mr Gerling, the awnings can be attached to almost any type of building in order to maintain a constantly pleasant indoor climate. “In addition to modern, low-maintenance technology, the properties of our awning covers are particularly important,” says the Managing Director. The fabrics reflect ultraviolet rays, which keeps the heat outside and ensures a pleasant living climate.

Controlling solar protection systems automatically is best

When building a conservatory or installing glass canopies over a patio, you should therefore plan to incorporate solar protection immediately. And the best way to do this is with automated technology, recommends Michael Gerling. “Solar protection functions best if it shades a room before the heat can get inside. This can be controlled using sensors and functions that automatically extend and retract the awning.” 3,021 characters

Above-glass and underglass awnings from markilux create a pleasant quality of life in a conservatory or under a glass canopy because they ensure excessive heat stays outside. It is an advantage if solar protection systems can be controlled automatically.
