New awning system
for the Hotel Schulz

markilux planned and realized the sun protection for the Hotel Schulz in the heart of Berlin. The choice fell on a spacious pergola system. The chosen system adapts to different weather conditions and can be completely closed with external blinds if required.

Hotel Schulz is a young, cosmopolitan hotel located close to the center on the Spree and was opened in 2018. The outdoor dining area offers a view of the city's history. The terrace borders directly on a preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, which reflects the spirit of the city with its colorful graffiti.

The hotel operators decided to have the terrace covered with awnings. Among other things, they wanted to use the area as an extended breakfast room where people from all over the world can meet.

Expanded catering area with 50 new seats

After detailed advice from markilux project, the owner opted for the markilux pergola classic with tracfix (secure cover zip technology without gap between cover and guide). The system consists of four separate panels and can be controlled by radio. In total, it measures a good 12 meters in length and spans an area of around 75 square meters. This means that 50 guests can now find a weather-protected spot in the outdoor dining area and enjoy their breakfast.

Vertical awnings and triangular awnings were installed so that the space can be used in all weather conditions. This means that the system can be closed all the way around and there are fewer gaps through which wind or rain can enter. Panoramic windows were integrated into the sides to ensure that the view of the historic wall remains unobstructed. When the weather is nice, the room can be opened up again quickly by raising the awnings.

Simple design to match the facade

The concept of the hotel is very modern and a little hip on the inside. From the outside, it looks rather plain. The colour of the fabric and frame are therefore light and neutral. This means that the markilux pergola classic matches both the façade and the adjacent, brightly coloured wall.
