Awning control
with winding handle, remote control, smart home & co

When choosing the right awning model, it's not just about design, size or fixture type. The operation of the awning can also be decisive. You have the choice of whether manual operation using a winding handle - with servo support if required - is sufficient for you or whether you want more convenience. If you want to extend the awning without physical effort, an awning control with remote control may be an option. Depending on the model, the awnings can be equipped with a standard or radio-controlled motor. Optional sun, wind and rain sensors ensure weather-dependent control of your markilux designer awning. In addition to automated awning control, the smart home option makes retracting and extending the awning a minor matter. Smart home systems such as the somfy awning control system make it easier to operate the awning and take over the retraction and extension of your awning. This means you can also operate your awnings from your smartphone or tablet when you are out and about. This is particularly practical if you forget to retract the awning before the weather changes. Or to lower the vertical blind before the sun can heat up the interior.

Technical overview:
Different types of awning control

Most markilux awnings are equipped with a gearbox including winding handle as standard. Optionally, you can configure many of our awning models with a (radio) motor. With electric awnings, the stainless steel winding handle only serves as an emergency winding handle (on selected models) - in normal operation, the awning is controlled at the push of a button. Electric awnings can be controlled via a switch in the interior, a radio remote control, weather-dependent sensors or an app. Your markilux control options at a glance:

Your markilux radio wall switches for awnings with input-output (io for short) are available in the following versions:

  • Smoove io Pure shine radio wall switch (1-channel) With the sensitive Smoove io Pure shine radio wall switch (1-channel), you can control your awning with a transmitter on an interior wall. It is also equipped with the "my" memory function, which remembers your favourite awning position.
  • Smoove A/M ioPure shine radio wall switch (1-channel) The Smoove A/M io Pure shine radio wall switch (1-channel) is attached to an interior wall for easy radio control of your electric awning. It is equipped with the "my" memory function and also offers an auto/manu function.

With the markilux hand-held radio transmitters and the matching radio-controlled motor, your awning can be conveniently controlled at the touch of a button. The ergonomic markilux awning remote controls are available in an elegant look to match our designer awnings and are available in many variants: firstly as a 1-channel and 5-channel version in 433 MHz technology, and secondly as a 5-channel version in 868 MHz technology. The features of the different versions at a glance:

A rain sensor ensures that your awning is automatically retracted when it rains. The sensor can be mounted directly on the face or optionally on a support post thanks to the bracket. The power supply is provided by a sensor and power cable - both are quick and easy to install.

The rain sensor is effectively protected against soiling thanks to a film that prevents oxidation of the conductor tracks. If the temperature outside drops, the awning sensor automatically regulates itself by means of an integrated heater. Product features of the markilux rain sensor for awning control:

  • Measures rain and snow

  • Has an integrated, self-regulating heater

  • Easy installation of the sensor and power cable

  • UV-stable housing and cable

  • Insensitive to soiling

  • Quick and easy installation possible thanks to bracket

The sun and wind monitor helps you to shade your patio or balcony awning depending on the weather conditions. Your shade provider extends automatically as soon as the sun is shining - or retracts into the cassette when the wind picks up.

In addition to the safety factor, a sensor-controlled awning is also practical if you want to protect your interior from excessive heating. This sensor is available in the following variants:

Soliris Uno sun and wind sensor

Your awning is automatically retracted or extended depending on the wind and sun conditions. The wind and brightness thresholds are set on the control unit. If desired, the automatic sun control can be easily deactivated using a slide switch. The awning is then controlled manually. This version of the sun and wind monitor is suitable for individual awnings.

Soliris Smoove IB + Pure sun and wind sensor

In addition to the classic sun/wind function, the Soliris Smoove IB + Pure sun and wind sensor offers an integrated timer that can be used to set up to four individual Times for moving the awning on a daily or weekly basis. A rain sensor can be connected as an option. Operation is convenient via a display with backlighting.

Radio controls 433 MHz = RTS

  • Soliris radio sun and wind sensor for radio-controlled motors, with connection for rain sensor: The awning is retracted or extended according to the wind and sun conditions. The wind and brightness threshold value is simply set on the control unit. In combination with a suitable rain sensor, the awning is automatically retracted when it starts to rain. Soliris Sensor RTS transmits the signals by radio. This eliminates the need for any wiring to the control or drive. The automatic sun control can be switched on and off with a radio transmitter.

  • Radio wind monitor Eolis Sensor RTS: Continuous monitoring of the wind speed: As soon as the individually adjustable threshold value is exceeded, the sensor sends a movement command to the awning drive. Thanks to the radio connection, no cabling to the control point or around the drive is necessary. Only a 230 V connection is required.

For automatic control depending on the amount of sunlight, you can order an optional sunlight sensor for your electric awning. This is available in two versions: the Sunis Sun Sensor RTS sunlight sensor in 433 MHz technology and the radio light sensor with solar module in 868 MHz technology. Both can be mounted flexibly on any façade.

Your markilux sunlight sensor gives extension and retraction commands to awnings with a radio-controlled motor. The sunlight sensors are powered by built-in solar cells, so there is no need to wire them to the mains supply.

Up to three sensors can be taught into one radio-controlled motor. However, one sunlight sensor can control several electric awnings. This awning sensor is available in the following versions:

Radio controls 433 MHz - Radio sun sensor Wirefree solar-powered sunlight sensor

  • Official designation: Radio control sun sensor Sunis WireFree RTS

Intelligent, sensitive, mains-independent - the markilux Vibrabox, a wind sensor, reacts to vibrations and retracts your electric awning according to the wind load.

The load sensors are based on technology for wireless transmission of the wind load, with various sensitivity levels to choose from. Your markilux Vibrabox wind sensor works independently of the mains thanks to battery operation. It is mounted wirelessly on the front profile.

Both the markilux vibrabox in 433 MHz technology and the markilux vibrabox plus in 868 MHz technology are compatible with the corresponding radio-controlled motors for awnings. They are available in the colours white and anthracite (traffic white RAL 9016 and traffic grey RAL 7043).

The markilux Vibrabox wind sensor is available in the following versions:

  • RTS 433 MHz radio control - markilux vibrabox
  • io radio control 868 MHz - markilux Vibrabox Eolis 3D WireFree io
