The markilux Sun compass helps you to easily calculate the shade of your new awning online. Why is simulating shadows an important step in the planning process? Depending on the orientation of your Patio or balcony, the sun's rays hit the area you want to shade with an awning from different directions and at different angles at different times of the day and year.
When planning and configuring your new awning, you should therefore ask yourself at what time of day solar protection is most important to you. Do you want shade on your Patio at the end of the working day or would you prefer it for your morning coffee? The optimum dimensions and features of your new patio and balcony awning, such as length, extension, installation height and angle of pitch, should be determined according to your wishes and needs. The course of the sun can be simulated so that you can see when and where the awning provides shade - at any time of day and on any desired date. Calculating shade with the markilux Sun compass - how it works
The markilux Sun compass shows you how the shade under your awning will be - depending on the date, time and location. In order to calculate the amount of light falling on your awning, the tool requires some information. The shadow is calculated in the following steps:
Information about the location of your awning: when you click on the "Location" button, a small map with a search field appears. You can enter your address here. Don't forget to enter the cardinal direction of your Patio or balcony.
Awning properties: In the second step, you have the option of selecting the awning type. You can simulate the shade cast by either an articulated awning or a pergola. You can also specify the dimensions and angle of pitch of the awning. You can always return to this step to readjust the values for calculating the shade. The markilux shadeplus, which protects your Patio or balcony from the rays of the low sun, is listed here as an additional equipment option.
Date: Next, enter a date and time or a time window for which you would like to calculate the shade. Try out different months and times of day, for example, and observe how the incidence of the sun's rays on your Patio changes.
Start sun path: Once you have entered all the data, you can start the sun path for the selected day by clicking on "Play". The shadow of the awning is simulated based on the course of the sun. You can run the Sun compass and imitate a whole day, for example. You can adjust the speed of the animation. The course of time can be made either faster or slower.
