Technology

To ensure a fast and smooth-running process in the event of a complaint or repair, please contact your specialist markilux dealer. Describe the problem and send your dealer all the necessary product data. The best idea is to inform the dealer of the individual production number, which, since 2002, can be found on all markilux awnings on the small sewn-in label on the awning cover on the right-hand side of the front profile. This number enables us to identify your specific awning with all the relevant data here in the factory.

If you are not sure who your specialist markilux dealer is, you will find a specialist partner near you here.

Their integration always depends on the specific system in use. It is advisable to consult the supplier of the respective smart home system before ordering your awning. Your markilux specialist dealer can then determine the required specification of the awning's electrical system.

The noise made by the awning motor during operation can change over the course of time. Similarly, the noise of track-guided awning systems can change, too. First of all, the noises could be down to wear and tear; on the other hand, dirt might also be a contributing factor. Regular maintenance and care can help avoid this. Ask your specialist markilux dealer about the possibility of a maintenance contract.

In the Formula-1 wind tunnel at Toyota, markilux had the opportunity to study the behaviour and wind resistance of various awning models under extremely windy conditions. The models tested were the vertical blind markilux 860, a prototype of the markilux 620 tracfix, as well as folding-arm awnings - a markilux 6000 with a special awning cover and a markilux 6000 with a standard cover. The awnings had to withstand wind speeds of up to 180 km/h.

markilux awnings for outdoor use comply with the current technical requirements of the

European Standard EN 13561
for awnings in terms of their construction and fixture brackets.

markilux folding-arm awnings are CE certified according to this standard and, depending on model and size,

meet
the requirements of wind resistance class 1 or 2
. Depending on model and size, markilux vertical roller blinds, glass canopy awnings and pergola awnings fulfil
wind resistance class 2 or 3
. Your specialist markilux dealer would be more than pleased to advise you in this regard.

It is extremely dangerous to use an awning in wind speeds in excess of those permitted. In such conditions the awning must not be extended. The wind resistance class is only met if the markilux awning has been installed in a correspondingly proper manner.

Wind resistance class 0

windwiderstandsklasse-0

0 to 3 Beaufort

The awning must not be used in wind.

Wind resistance class 1

windwiderstandsklasse-1

4 Beaufort | speed 20—27 km/h = 13—18 mph = 5.5—7.4 m/s

The awning may remain extended up to Beaufort force 4. Definition according to the Beaufort scale: moderate breeze, moderate wind, wind moves small branches and twigs, raises dust and loose paper.

Wind resistance class 2

windwiderstandsklasse-2

5 Beaufort | speed 28—37 km/h = 19—24 mph = 7.5—10.4 m/s

The awning may remain extended up to Beaufort force 5. Definition according to the Beaufort scale: fresh breeze, fresh wind, small deciduous trees begin to sway, whitecaps form on lakes.

Wind resistance class 3

windwiderstandsklasse-3

6 Beaufort | speed 38—48 km/h = 25—31 mph = 10.5—13.4 m/s

The awning may remain extended up to Beaufort force 6. Definition according to the Beaufort scale: strong wind, large boughs sway, umbrellas are difficult to hold, telegraph lines whistle in the wind.

Specialist dealers

One of the questions that we at markilux are most frequently asked is why we only sell our awnings through specialist dealers? There are a number of good reasons for this:

1. markilux is an awning manufacturer

markilux, as a manufacturer of awnings, has to concentrate on its core business. We put all the knowledge, logistical competence and not least professional expertise that would be needed to install an awning on your building into what we are good at: designing and manufacturing awnings.

2. Specialist dealers offer more

The specialist dealers who sell our awnings (and other products) offer you a whole lot more than we could. Many of them offer products such as windows, lightning rods, curtains, shutters, garage doors and landscape gardening. So, if you are completely renovating your house or even building a new one, you do not need to go to several suppliers for each individual product. You can get everything from under one roof and have the same contact person in every case.

3. Proximity to the customer

As a company with its base in Emsdetten, northwest Germany, it is easier for all parties involved if the whole process is carried out by a partner in YOUR vicinity. And for us, these partners are our specialist dealers.

By the way, you can find our outstanding specialist dealers here. There is undoubtedly one not far from you!

In terms of design and dimensions, markilux awnings are individual products which are made to order according to your personal requirements. Your specialist markilux dealer will advise you accordingly and order the optimal solution for you from markilux. Naturally, the dealer will be happy to coordinate the subsequent delivery and professional installation with you individually.

You can find markilux specialist partners near you in our "Find a Store" area.

How to take proper care of your awning cover
So that you can reap long and lasting enjoyment from your awning cover, here are a few tips regarding its treatment and care: dust can best be removed when dry by means of a soft brush. Remove leaves, twigs and similar debris immediately. Small stains should be removed using lukewarm water and a commercially accepted, preferably liquid detergent suitable for delicate fabrics (5% soap solution, water temperature max. 30°C). Rinse thoroughly with clear water, leaving no residue.

What you should otherwise know about awning covers
Small imperfections such as knots, uneven yarn thicknesses, the occasional broken yarn, waviness or uneven rolling up characteristics as well as signs of fabric stretch - especially in the region of hem or panel joint - cannot always be avoided. Moreover, creases caused during the manufacturing process, which manifest themselves as dark lines when seen against the light, are unavoidable. The cover's inherent weight may mean that it sags to a certain extent. This will be exacerbated when the cover is wet. We guarantee that these phenomena will not reduce the service life of the awning nor impair its functionality. In this matter, we refer to the guidelines of the Industrial Association for Technical Textiles, Shutters, Solar Shading e.V. (ITRS) with regard to the product characteristics of made-up awning covers.

Solar protection fabrics are impregnated with a water-repellent finish and, if properly cared for and used at a pitch of at least 14°, remain impervious to water during short, light rainfall. During prolonged and / or heavy rainfall, the awning must not be extended or should be retracted to prevent damage. Over time, dust and dirt will settle on the fabric – a rich breeding ground for fungi (patchy marking) and / or moss. For this reason, the cover should never remain damp for a long period. So, when it has stopped raining, extend the awning again at the earliest opportunity to allow the cover to dry.

Your markilux awning is still in a good state, but the cover no longer appeals to you? The awning cover is completely out of date or it no longer matches the colour scheme on your patio? No problem, we as an awning fabric manufacturer can offer you a broad range of cover patterns in the most varied colours and with the most extensive of applications. Special features include, for example, their self-cleaning effect, the heat-reflecting aluminium particles with which some of our covers are coated and the finely perforated version for a better view outside. Why not use our Awning fabric finder to browse through the markilux collection? If you would like to get an overview of our collection in person, visit us in our markilux showrooms or at a markilux specialist dealer near you.

Generally speaking, the awning cover of any markilux model, however old, can be changed. If you are interested and would now like to give your awning a new, up-to-date look, please go to one of our qualified specialist dealers who would be happy to replace your awning cover.

P.S.:
We really mean it, when we say: no awning is like yours - awnings made to measure. For this reason your markilux awning, too, is unique. This is further emphasised by the works production ("BA number"), which, since 2002, has been used on all markilux awnings in the form of a small sewn-in label on the awning cover on the right-hand side of the front profile. This number can be used by the factory to identify the exact model, including which dimensions, accessories and extras it has.

Depending on the fabric type, the awning cover will weigh around 300 g/m². It is made in a special fabrication process from panels that are joined together using the latest adhesive technology. Due to its inherent weight, the cover sags slightly between the panel joints. The tension in the awning cover is therefore higher at what are referred to as the longitudinal seams than in the intervening panels. The seams are necessary in order to stabilise the awning cover in the horizontal plane.

The difference in tension at the seams is due to there being a double layer of fabric. As the cover is rolled up on the roller tube, the two layers of fabric are forced to assume different diameters. The outer layer is stretched and the inner layer compressed leading to differences in tension within the cover. A visual effect of this can be so-called puckering. It is a physical phenomenon that occurs for technical reasons and is unavoidable. It occurs directly at the seams, but also in the form of a washboard ripple effect next to the seams. Simply using the awning can cause these effects to appear. And climatic influences can also play a role.

If the puckering occurs at the sides of the cover, this is referred to as elongation of the side hems. In most cases an active tensioning system keeps the cover almost permanently taut. Although seams and hems provide reinforcement, they also have to withstand the most strain. When the fabric is being rolled up, the seams and hems lie on top of one another which increases the pressure and tension even more. This results in increased strain and elongation. This can cause the side hems to pucker slightly when the awning is extended.

Puckering is a typical characteristic displayed by awning covers. It is a commonly known phenomenon that can occur in all awning fabric types and has physical origins. However, this does not affect the actual quality and functionality of the cover. Your specialist markilux dealer would be more than pleased to give you the benefit of his advice.
